Practice in Person
Vinyasa Flow I
Vinyasa Flow I builds upon the internal awareness developed through Sun Salutation Foundations.
As we continue to return to Surya Namaskar A, B, and C, repetition gives us the opportunity to experience familiar movements more deeply. The more familiar the sequence becomes, the more space there is to notice what is actually happening within that space.
From that foundation, the practice begins to expand into the broader posture families found in Hatha Yoga:
standing postures
seated postures
forward bends
backbends
balancing postures
inversions
The same internal relationships remain central: grounding through the hands and feet, moving from the abdominal chain, working with the bandhas, and discovering how stability can create lightness and lift.
As the posture vocabulary grows, we begin applying those relationships to more complex expressions.
Backbending deepens through poses such as Setu Bandhasana and Ustrasana. Arm balancing begins with Bakasana. Inversions expand through Viparita Karani, Sarvangasana, Halasana, Sirsasana, and the progression from Dolphin Pose toward Pincha Mayurasana.
The purpose is not simply to add harder poses.
It is to begin recognizing that the same internal organization we first experienced in familiar movements continues to support us as the practice becomes more demanding.
Through repetition, the body begins to remember. What once required concentrated effort gradually becomes more familiar, and that familiarity creates room for greater awareness, responsiveness, and ease.
Vinyasa Flow I is where the practice begins to connect more fully.
Individual asanas become part of a larger movement vocabulary. Familiar relationships begin appearing in unfamiliar shapes. The practitioner starts to recognize what can be carried from one posture into the next.
This is where the Re-Turn begins to deepen.
We return to the same movements, but with a little more awareness each time.
And as those relationships become increasingly familiar, the practice naturally begins to move toward the more continuous rhythm of Vinyasa Flow II—where repetition, refinement, and sustained awareness allow us to keep moving inward through the practice rather than simply moving through the poses.
